Store and organise files in Drive

Upload files and folders, find them again and clean up.

Drive keeps your files, folders and documents in one place. Files are encrypted on our servers.

  1. Choose New (or press n) to create a folder or document, or to upload files or a whole folder.
  2. You can also drag files and folders from your computer straight onto the page, or onto a folder.
  3. Drag items onto a folder, or onto My Drive, to move them. Right-click anything for more actions.
  • Search looks at file names and the words inside documents. Press / to jump to it, or Ctrl K (Cmd K on a Mac) to open anything quickly.
  • Star the things you use most, and find them under Starred.
  • Recent lists what you opened lately. Shared with me lists what other people shared with you.
  • Large uploads carry on where they stopped if your connection drops. Re-add the same file after a reload to resume it.

Storage and the trash

Your storage use is shown at the bottom of the Drive menu. Deleted items go to the Trash first and are removed for good after 30 days. Items in the trash still count towards your storage, so empty it if you are running low.

Select an item and press i to see its details: who owns it, who can open it and what changed.
